Light and Land

Details of the workshops I run with Doug Chinnery in conjunction with Light and Land can be found below.

Doug and I also run a small number of our own tours, also detailed below.

FOR ONE TO ONES  AND CAMERA CLUB TALKS, see bottom of page

A note about prices. As my workload has increased in recent years, the time I have available for my own creative endeavours has become vanishingly small. The prices quoted below are not necessarily what I believe I am worth, rather they represent the value I place on my dwindling free time.

ONE TO ONES

Although I now undertake a considerable number of workshops for Light and Land and privately with Doug, covering various locations, I still get asked about one to one tuition.

I understand that there are many reasons why people might prefer a more personalised approach; obviously time can be spent in a much more targeted way with very individual tuition.

The prices below are based on any location within an hour of my home in East Sussex.  I am happy to travel further afield and I calculate my expenses at £35 per extra hour to cover fuel and other costs (and pro rata for part hours).

Weekends are difficult for me, and while I will schedule a workshop on a Saturday or a Sunday if no other possibility exists, family commitments mean I have to price them to take into account arrangements that will need to be made to enable me to get away.

Full Day (Week Day) for one person (about 8 hours tuition) – £700.

Full Day (weekend) for one person (about 8 hours tuition) – £875

If you would like to team up with a friend or friends for a bespoke day I charge the following:

Full day (Week Day) for 2 people – £395 per person

Full day (Week Day) for 3 people – £325 per person

Full day (Week Day) for 4 people – £260 per person

Full day (Saturday) for 2 people – £495 per person

Full day (Saturday) for 3 people – £395 per person

Full day (Saturday) for 4 people – £325 per person

The prices above cover tuition and all drinks, snacks, lunch etc. I believe that a review/critique session is vitally important - especially when starting out with multiple exposure/ICM so I like to use some of the time looking at images made and suggesting how they might be edited or improved.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to email me. I try to answer all emails within 24 hours, but if I am away teaching, it may take a little longer.

CAMERA CLUBS
The issue I have when accepting camera club talks is that I now earn my living teaching, writing and exhibiting, so scheduling in a talk with the travelling and preparation can effectively cost me a day’s wages.

I do understand that camera clubs are charitable institutions and may not be in a position to meet high fees. Having said that, I get approached by a fair number of clubs these days and the only way I can field all requests is by pricing them to take into account my dwindling free time and lost revenue. My fee for a talk is now £650 for venues within an hour from my home in East Sussex (inclusive of expenses). Travelling further afield £35 per hour.

I realise this is probably far more than many clubs - especially the smaller ones -  are used to paying but I hope you can understand the reasons why they are priced this way. I wish I could promise that I represent value for money!  I would certainly urge you to consider if enough of your members would be interested in hearing about such an unconventional approach to photography.

FEEDBACK

Thanks Valda.
Thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite the flat lighting and the freezing temperatures. Always good to learn from masters of their craft like you and Doug. You explain what can be a difficult process so lucidly, thats why I keep coming back.
All being well I'll see you in Bath.

"I wanted to congratulate Valda and Terry on running an excellent bluebell workshop in Marlborough last week. I enjoyed the workshop and really liked the mix of practical photography and post processing (with breakfast). They were both extremely helpful and professional.” - Sue

First of all, many thanks for the workshop. It really was terrific. The material in the email is hugely helpful too and I am building up enough experience with the techniques to be more and more pleased with the results. Having a print from the day was so helpful as the range of tones and impact of my shot was far greater in the print than the detail apparent on the screen. Terry did sterling work coming in at the last minute and has been very helpful with a couple of my images since and I’m most grateful.

As ever, seeing what others are doing and playing around with new techniques is good fun and helps kickstart new directions. I haven’t that many shots from the day that I was really pleased with, but the 5 or so that got me excited I’m very proud of. Thank you so much for your time, attention and encouragement. I’ve now booked the trip to Ghent and Bruges in December and look forward to it with great enthusiasm.

Thank you for the course and tuition yesterday, you and Doug have a teaching style that is quite unique today, you both let the day flow along and if we need help or quidance you are both available, sometimes tutors are quite overpowering "you do it this way" maybe that works with traditional photography, ( which may be the reason why landscape photography is so stereotyped) but ICM and ME work is more relaxed
